Execution of Kurdish political prisoner and sportsman Mansour Arvand

39-year-old Mansour Arvand, a popular sportsman from Mahabad and political prisoner, has been executed in Miandoab Prison.
Mansour Arvand who was a Kurdish wrestler and coach was arrested in June 2011. He was condemned to death for “Moharebeh” [enmity with God] and “propaganda against the system and membership of Kurdish Democratic Party” by the regime’s iniquitous courts while he was deprived of choosing a lawyer. During the four years of his imprisonment in various prisons, including the intelligence prison of Mahabad and Evin Prison, he underwent the most severe tortures and was suffering from various illnesses because of that, including renal infection. He was executed despite the fact that he had been told that his sentence had been commuted to life in prison.
Mansour Arvand was among the Kurdish political prisoners who on November 20, 2014 staged a hunger strike at Orumieh Central Prison in protest to attempts by the mullahs’ intelligence to dissolve the political prisoners’ ward and transfer political prisoners to the ordinary prisoners’.
